And the Yankees got the last laugh on the field, defeating the Blue Jays 4-2 on Thursday night in Toronto to take three of the four-game series.
Continuing their feud, Boone appeared to yell, "You're f-king crazy." "Sit the f-k down, Pete," he said, referring to Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker.
Though Boone didn’t say much on the matter after Thursday’s win and seemed exasperated by all the back-and-forth controversies between the dugouts this series, he did say Walker was screaming at third base coach Luis Rojas again.
“Oh I don’t know. He was yelling at Luis again,” Boone said. “I’m glad we’re leaving. I was trying to stay out of [interacting with their] dugout and I violated my own rules to our guys, so I apologize for that.”
The coaches’ spat heated up in the second game of the series — a 6-3 Yankees win.
Walker had called out from the dugout to Yankees third base coach Luis Rojas, complaining that the latter was out of his respective box.
After that back-and-forth escalated, Boone had came out of the dugout and appeared to exchange words with Blue Jays manager John Schneider, who notably said “Shut up fat boy, shut up,” at an unknown member of the Yankees.
Before the third game of the series — a 3-0 Blue Jays win in 10 innings — Schneider claimed to reporters that he had shouted the “fat boy” remark at no one in particular.
But Yankees assistant hitting coach Brad Wilkerson surmised the insult was directed toward him.
Walker continued his previous remarks directed at Rojas about being out of the box when Boone barked at him this evening.
All the controversies in the series first started with Aaron Judge’s towering home run in the first game of the series — a 7-4 Yankees win — when cameras captured his eyes shifting to look in the first base line/dugout area prior to his blast.
The Blue Jays had complained to the league about the Yankees’ base coaches being outside their boxes, MLB cleared the Yankees of any wrongdoing.
Judge told reporters that he was looking in the direction of his dugout, annoyed at his teammates still chirping umpire Clint Vondrak over his strike zone while the team was leading 6-0.
Boone had just gotten ejected for arguing over a low strike call moments before Judge’s homer.
It was one of Judge’s four home runs in the series, as none of the Blue Jays’ attempted distractions seemed to meaningfully bother the Yankees.
