EPL: Ten Hag claims a Manchester United player could stymie a deal for Harry Kane.

Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has stated that the club needs to sign a proven goalscorer in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils. However, Ten Hag admits that the possibility of Mason Greenwood's return could change his mind.

Marcus Rashford was Manchester United's leading scorer this season, with 30 goals in all competitions. Anthony Martial, who only scored nine goals this season, was the next most prolific player.

Ten Hag told the UK Times: “What we need besides Marcus Rashford is one extra player with scoring abilities whether it’s coming out of our own squad or we have to sign one.”

Spurs will demand at least £100m for Kane, who scored 30 Premier League goals this term and enters the final 12 months of his contract.

However, another option for United could potentially be the return of Greenwood.

The United Academy graduate remains suspended by the club, while they conduct an internal investigation which has been ongoing since charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault were dropped against him back in February.

When asked whether Greenwood could provide the sort of firepower United needs, Ten Hag stated that the forward “showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [scoring goals]”.

However, the Dutchman also reaffirmed that the decision to potentially reintegrate him would not be his.

Greenwood, 21, has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for United. He played his last game in January 2022.
