He displayed bravery — Cooper, the manager of Forest, praised Awoniyi's performance against Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper praised Taiwo Awoniyi for his outstanding performance in the Reds' 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Awoniyi, 25, was the day's hero, scoring twice to earn the Tricky Trees a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

It was the Nigeria international's first back-to-back brace in his professional career, having scored twice in Forest's 4-3 win over Southampton last Monday.

The forward got the first from a header on 13 minutes following a howler from Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.

Awoniyi then equalised for the visitors on 62 minutes with another decent strike.

“He (Awoniyi) scored with his head as well which we were very pleased with that. We talked about it and there was a chance at Brentford that we thought he could have done better with, so it was good that he got the two goals. Especially the first one, I think he showed good bravery,” Cooper told Premier League Productions.

The former Liverpool striker has, so far featured in 25 league games for Forest this season with eight goals and one assist to his name.
