Scores of people have been killed and homes have been destroyed in Taraba communities as a result of the alleged formation of chiefdoms.

Thirteen people have been reported killed in Taraba State's Karim-Lamido Local Government Council.

The crisis, which our reporter learned erupted as a result of chiefdom formation, was said to have resulted in the burning of several houses in one of the communities.

According to sources, in addition to the aforementioned number of casualties and property destruction, several people, the majority of whom are women and children, have been displaced.

The state police command, when reached for confirmation, said “only two casualties were recorded.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abdullahi Usman, who made the confirmation on Saturday, said three units of mobile policemen have been drafted to the areas.

Apart from the policemen, several soldiers, according to him, have been deployed to the council.

Recall that the state governor, recently created nine additional chiefdoms across the state, a development which has continued to cause tensions in the state.
