Fields sprayed against red locusts in southern province

Nais-The International Red Locust Control Organisation for Central and Southern Africa has sprayed 3,896 hectares of fields in Kazungula district, Southern Province to control the spread of the African Migratory locusts and Red locusts.

Southern Province Acting Agricultural Coordinator PAUL NYAMBE has confirmed to NAIS in Choma that the spraying was done using ground motorized knapsack spraying and helicopter aerial spraying to control the locusts.

Mr. NYAMBE says the control of locusts in some affected areas has averted loss of crop production for Kazungula district of more than 40 thousand hectares of field crops.

He also explained that more than 20-thousand hectares of the staple food crop, maize, has been saved from destruction by the devastating pests…DRY
