The government has released over 50-million kwacha towards the completion of some projects in Northern Province.

Northern Province Minister Chungu Bwalya has disclosed that the money has been paid to the consultant and contractor working on the Kasama Airport and part of it is meant for the Kaputa water and sanitation project.

Mr. Bwalya told ZANIS in Mbala that 2-hundred thousand kwacha has also been released to the Ministry of Local Government to facilitate works at Chikumanino market.

He thanked President Edgar Lungu for making strides in ensuring that on-going development projects in the region are well executed and completed.

Mr. Bwalya said the Head of State has shown commitment towards addressing the needs of the people in the province by personally taking time to visit the districts and inspect progress on capital projects.

The Provincial Minister has since urged the contractors engaged to carry out the three projects to immediately resume works following the release of funds.

He said the government wants to ensure the Kasama Airport Runway expansion project is quickly completed as it is key towards boosting investment and the tourism sector.

Mr. Bwalya, who is also PF Provincial Chairperson noted that the people of Kaputa District are eager to have a steady and adequate supply of water hence the need to speed up works on the water reticulation project.
