Infighting worries local government service commission

Paul Shalala-The Local Government Service Commission says the infighting among Town Clerks, Mayors and District Commissioners in some districts must come to an end because operating procedures of each office are straight forward.

Commission Chairperson AMOS MUSONDA says the government has made clear guidelines on each of the office bearers and there is NO need for them to fight in their areas of operations.

Speaking when he addressed heads of departments from local authorities in Luanshya, Lufwanyama and Mufulira in Kitwe this morning, Mr MUSONDA urged Town Clerks to work according to their guidelines and avoid fighting Mayors or District Commissioners.

He said professionalism and ethical conduct are necessary as they make it easier for service delivery to be achieved.

And Zambia Union of Local Authorities Workers Union has observed that friction among Mayors, Town Clerks and District Commissioners has in the past affected development.

ZULAWU General Secretary EMMANUEL MWINSA said due to lack of consultation between the DC’s office and the local authority, some developmental projects have been funded twice thereby wasting government resources.

Mr MWINSA has since urged the three offices to work together and harmonize government work in districts.
