This year’s Musubilwa Mpemba Traditional Ceremony of the Unga people of Bangweulu Swamps in Lunga District, Luapula Province has been canceled.
The cancellation of the traditional ceremony is due Covid-19, the death of Chief Kasoma-Lunga in April, and floods that adversely affected the district
Senior Chief Kalima Nkonde said this in a statement to ZNBC News through Musubilwa Mpemba Traditional Ceremony Organising Committee, Chairperson Chanda Katotobwe.
Chief Kalima Nkonde said consensus has been reached with Chiefs Bwalya-Mponda and Nsamba, the promoters of the ceremony, to avoid risking the lives of people.
He has since apologized to the promoters of tourism, as the organizing committee is aware that the ceremony is key as it is an integral part of the national heritage.
